How to approach transfer window

Am just interested to know how everyone thinks we should be approaching the january and summer windows?! I thinks we will all agree that we need to clear out the remaining deadwood and get rid of Tevez once and for all. But what about incoming players. One or two big name expensive signings? Young kids with lots of potential? Gamble with a cheap punt on decent players from average teams in the hope they improve?

I for one would like to see us continue to sign good youngsters for the future but I also believe there are alot of decent players around the prem that would make good squad players and would not really impact FFPR. I've listed a few below of the top of my head. thoughts?

Leon Osman
Junior Hoilett
Gary Cahill
Jack Colback
Nathan Dyer
Mark Albrighton
Glenn Whelan
Demba Ba

Not saying I think we should sign all these but I think these are the types of players who could improve alot playing in a squad like ours.

none of them ....i would go for a quick striker as our fourth one ...maybe jordan rhodes

and definately another centre half but not cahill ....maybe macauley from west brom

i'm not saying them players exactly, just players like them who wont cost the earth in transfer fee or wages but could improve with us. Although I do think Odemwingie or Ba would make a good 4th choice

i wouldnt sign ba till the summer as hes away for the african nations cup...good player tho !
